Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger thinks Aaron Rodgers hasn’t signed with Pittsburgh yet for one reason, and that’s the Minnesota Vikings. Roethlisberger believes Rodgers would prefer to play for the Purple and Gold.

“I think Aaron [Rodgers] is secretly still holding out for Minnesota—which is why he hasn’t signed with the Steelers,” Roethlisberger said on his Footbahlin podcast. “Why else would you go throw with DK and working out, and blast it to everybody that ‘I’m throwing to these guys,’ but you won’t sign? I just think he thinks that Minnesota is a more complete, closer team to win a Super Bowl, and he might not be wrong.”

The Vikings finished 14-3 last year, so Rodgers could see Minnesota as his best option to win a Super Bowl this season.

Ultimately, Roethlisberger believes Rodgers will land in the Steel City, though.

“Aaron, let’s be honest, if you’re going to be throwing to DK Metcalf and telling everybody about it, you may as well just sign. Like what are we doing? I really believe that he is going to be a Steeler. I’m saying it,” Roethlisberger said.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk heard from a high-level NFL executive that Rodgers is waiting on Minnesota.

“I had somebody suggest to me yesterday, and I’m just sharing what I heard, what the person’s opinion is. It’s not a fact; it’s not a report. But it’s somebody who is in the ecosystem and isn’t a low-level employee. This is a high-level person with one of the teams. The opinion is he doesn’t really want to play for the Steelers, and he’s waiting for Minnesota,” Florio said on his podcast.

Despite reports saying that the Vikings were out on Rodgers, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said the door is still open for the four-time league MVP.

The Steelers seem to be okay with that, at least for now. President Art Rooney II said the team is willing to wait “not forever, but a little while longer.”

That deadline is likely the 2025 NFL Draft, which kicks off on April 24. Pittsburgh still has two vacancies in its quarterback room and a rookie will probably occupy one of those spots.

“I would think at some point, you got to be like, ‘Hey, you need to let us know before the draft,’” Roethlisberger said. “Because I think they’re going to draft a quarterback. It’s just a matter of how high they draft a quarterback.”
