As he seemingly has on a yearly basis since retiring from the profession in 2007, former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher is once again shutting down speculation he wants to return to coaching.

This time it is the expected vacancy with the New York Jets, which Cowher says he has “no interest” in.

“I have too much respect for the coaching profession to talk about a job that isn’t open,” Cowher told ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “From that perspective, any job that is open, I have no interest in coaching.”

The speculation began last week when Cowher’s CBS Sports colleague Boomer Esiason hinted on WFAN that the former coach was interested in the potential Jets opening.

Evidently, Esiason was simply blowing smoke, with Cowher once again making it abundantly clear he has no desire to return to the sideline.

Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this year, Cowher led the Steelers to eight division titles, six AFC Championship games and a victory in Super Bowl XL over his 15 years at the helm.
