Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher thinks the Steelers have the pieces to make a Super Bowl run this year. He sees no weakness with this group.
“They still have to play the Eagles, they still have to play the Chiefs. Those will be great litmus tests for them to see where they are. I think they go as far as they need to go,” Cowher told Bob Pompeani of KDKA. “I don’t see a weakness. I think (if) they can stay healthy, I don’t see that they can’t match up on any given Sunday against anybody in the AFC or even anybody in the NFC to be quite frank with you.”
With five games left, the Steelers hold a game and a half advantage over the Baltimore Ravens for the division rival.
After the Browns game, the Steelers play at Philadelphia, at Baltimore, host Kansas City and finish the regular season against the Bengals at home. To say the least, that’s a brutal stretch. The Steelers will indeed find out if they are true contenders over the next month.
Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger also thinks the Steelers are legit Super Bowl contenders after their 44-38 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
“Coach Tomlin texted me after the game, and I said … ‘Congrats on the game. That looked like the most complete game I’ve seen. You all look like Super Bowl contenders,'” Roethlisberger said on his Footbahlin podcast. “I know James [Harrison] was talking, and people say, ‘Oh, first half, they scored points. Yeah, but you know what? That happens sometimes. And what you do is make adjustments, and you come in the second half, and you basically shut ’em down. You get turnovers. You score on defense. So, to me, that was the most complete game. And I think that team could make a big run.”
