The Pittsburgh Steelers have finally addressed their situation at wide receiver. General manager Omar Khan sent a 2025 second-round draft pick to the Seattle Seahawks for DK Metcalf on Sunday night. The teams will also flip picks in the sixth and seventh rounds.

“More Seahawks trades: Seattle is sending two-time Pro Bowl WR DK Metcalf to the Steelers, per sources,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X. “Seattle has now traded QB Geno Smith to the Raiders, and WR Metcalf to the Steelers.”

The Steelers and Metcalf have also reportedly agreed to a 5-year, $150 million deal. Metcalf, 27, totaled 66 receptions for 992 yards and five touchdown catches last season. He had one season remaining on the three-year, $72 million extension he signed with Seattle in 2022.

Since being drafted in the second round in the 2019 NFL Draft, Metcalf has averaged 4.5 receptions and 65.2 receiving yards per game. He’s surpassed 900 receiving yards during each of his six professional seasons, but his five touchdown grabs in 2024 were a career low. Metcalf missed two games last season with a knee injury.

Critics often targeted the Steelers’ receiving room last season. George Pickens led the team with 900 receiving yards, while tight end Pat Freiermuth had 653 receiving yards and a team-high seven touchdown receptions. Mock drafts have linked Pittsburgh to Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka, Missouri’s Luther Burden III, and Texas’ Matthew Golden.

The Seahawks have leaned on Metcalf in their passing game, throwing to him at least 100 times every year and 726 in total. Only eight receivers saw more targets during that span. Davante Adams topped that list and agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Rams earlier Sunday night.

The Steelers have to figure out who will be throwing to Metcalf next season. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Sunday that Pittsburgh will offer Sam Darnold in free agency. Other options include Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
