Brian Baldinger Says Steelers Falcons in Week 1 ‘Very Well’ Could Happen
The Pittsburgh Steelers will learn their full 2024 schedule with the rest of the NFL, when it is announced on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. But when it comes to where and against which team the Steelers will play their first game of the 2024 season, we’ve at least been able to cross some options off the list.
The Steelers have 14 opponents in 2024, playing their three AFC North rivals twice each. But we know that at least six of their potential opponents are spoken for already. The Baltimore Ravens will be playing the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the Thursday night NFL opener. Then on Friday, the Philadelphia Eagles will be playing the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo, Brazil. On top of that, the Dallas Cowboys will play the Cleveland Browns at 4:25 on Sunday. On Tuesday it was revealed that the New York Jets will play the San Francisco 49ers on https://twitter.com/49ers/status/1790356385932136909″>Monday
Night Football in Week 1. The Chiefs, Ravens, Eagles Browns, Cowboys and Jets are all on the Steelers’ 2024 schedule.
The leaves the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, Washington Commanders, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers and Atlanta Falcons as the eight options for the Steelers’ Week 1 game.
Brian Baldinger of the NFL Network is hearing rumors that the Steelers’ Week 1 opponent could be the Atlanta Falcons. That would be a road game for the Black and Gold at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
In addition, https://twitter.com/ZachKleinWSB/status/1790509949404987578″>according
to Zach Kleim of WSB-Ch.2 in Atlanta, multiple sources around the league told him that the Falcons will play the Steelers in Week 1.
“I’m hearing that one of Sunday’s games is gonna be the Pittsburgh Steelers visiting the Atlanta Falcons,” Baldinger said in a https://twitter.com/BaldyNFL/status/1790389745450643735?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1790389745450643735%7Ctwgr%5Ef5bcac1d120d95d00e800f9675b7674b3d512d76%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsteelersdepot.com%2F2024%2F05%2Fbaldinger-steelers-vs-falcons-could-very-well-be-week-1-matchup%2F”>video
posted on X. “I hear it — it makes sense. You got Russell Wilson, new quarterback in Pittsburgh. You got Kirk Cousins, new quarterback in Atlanta. If you’re curious about these matchups so far, I don’t know that it’s 100 percent Pittsburgh visiting Atlanta. I think it makes sense. I’m not here to give it the 100 percent stamp on it, but I’m hearing that that game could very well be played on Sunday afternoon.”
A Steelers-Falcons Week 1 matchup would also be a revenge game for Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who was Atlanta’s head coach for three seasons before being fired after the 2023 season. A Russell Wilson’s revenge game in Week 1 at Mile High on Sunday Night Football https://twitter.com/ZacStevensDNVR/status/1790382045408972967″>also
makes a ton of sense.
When it comes to where, the Steelers can only play a home game in Week 1 if it’s on Sunday Night Football. The Pittsburgh Pirates have home games on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1:35 p.m. against the Washington Nationals and Monday, Sept. 9 at 6:40 p.m. against the Miami Marlins.
The full schedule will be released on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on NFL Network. Either way, expect it to be a challenge. The Steelers have the NFL’s most difficult schedule this season.
