The Denver Broncos have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Avery Williamson to their practice squad, the team announced on Monday as it began it’s preparations to face the Steelers this coming Sunday at Heinz Field.

Williamson, 29, came to the Steelers in the middle of the 2020 season in a trade with the New York Jets after the Steelers suffered several significant injuries to inside linebackers.

The Steelers traded a 2022 fifth-round pick to the Jets for Williamson and a 2022 seventh-round pick after Devin Bush Jr. and Robert Spillane both suffered injuries.

Williamson played eight games for the Steelers, making four starts. He recorded 52 tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and one sack.

The Steelers chose not to resign Williamson for the 2021 season. He did not sign with any other team this off-season until being added to the Broncos practice squad on Monday.

Denver also signed wide receiver Josh Malone to its practice squad on Monday and released cornerback Rojesterman Farris and offensive lineman Harry Crider.
