Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson went down with an Achilles injury in Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Watson was emotional as he was being carted off. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that the team is fearing the worst.

If it is an Achilles tear, Watson will be done for the season.

Former head team doctor of the Chargers David J. Chao believes Watson’s season is over.

“By video, clear right Achilles tendon rupture. Telltale calf reverberation. Surgery and season over,” Chao wrote on X.

Watson was replaced by second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who got the call up to the second string instead of Jameis Winston. The team’s fifth-round pick out of UCLA in 2023, Robinson started three games last season when Watson was injured, before the team turned to veteran free agent Joe Flacco.

Parting ways with Watson would put a massive dent in the Browns’ salary cap, but it could be the best move for the franchise to start fresh. From the beginning, it seemed like a desperate move by Cleveland. The Haslams probably have buyers remorse after fumbling the Watson signing, which was very controversial due to the more than two dozen women who accused him of sexual assault and inappropriate conduct during massage sessions. Watson served an 11-game suspension in 2022 for violating the league’s conduct policy.

The first year was basically a lost year for Watson, but the last two seasons have been an absolute disaster. He looks nothing like what he displayed when he starred in Houston as a three-time Pro Bowl QB.

The Pittsburgh Steelers play the Browns on Thursday Night Football in Cleveland in Week 12 and host the Browns in Week 14. If it’s an Achilles tear, Watson will be out for both games.
