Skip Bayless claimed on X Wednesday that Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward flip-flopped on his take about the Steelers waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make a decision on whether he wants to play for the team.

“Amused by Cam Hayward’s backtrack on Aaron Rodgers. He realized exactly what I said on my show – that it has come to this for the Pittsburgh Steelers … they now desperately need what’s left of Aaron Rodgers. It’s looking like that or Mason Rudolph,” Bayless wrote on X.

Heyward caught wind of Bayless’ dig and clapped back.

“I’m amused you can’t @ me or atleast spell my name right,” Heyward wrote on X.

Heyward seemed to put Rodgers on notice last week as the waiting game continues for the free agent quarterback to make a decision on where he wants to play in 2025. The longtime Steelers team captain cleared the air on Wednesday, though.

“The pitch is, if you want to be a Steeler, be a Steeler. That’s all it was,” Heyward said on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. “It wasn’t meant that I don’t like Aaron Rodgers or I’m against it.”

Heyward originally said on his Not Just Football podcast, “I ain’t doing that darkness retreat. I don’t need any of that crap,” Heyward said. “Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. That’s simple, that’s the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers — if you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don’t, no skin off my back.”

Heyward later clarified on the Rich Eisen Show that he wasn’t calling Rodgers out. He just said he wasn’t going on a darkness retreat to recruit him

Heyward, who heavily recruited Russell Wilson last offseason, seems to be open to a new chapter with Rodgers as the team’s next quarterback.

“When I look at our team right now, it would be really cool to have a guy like Aaron Rodgers,” Heyward said. “But I can’t be the guy that gets it over the finish line. I think he’s got to make those decisions for himself. Excited to see what happens.”
