PITTSBURGH — Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward has accomplished a lot in his 11 NFL seasons, but he did something Monday night against the Chicago Bears that he hadn’t done in his career.

Heyward intercepted a Justin Fields pass in the first quarter, for his second takeaway of the 2021 season, the first time in Heyward’s career he has recorded more than one takeaway in a season. He also recovered a fumble in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

The interception was the second of Heyward’s career, after he grabbed one against the New York Giants in 2020. He recovered one fumble each in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The Steelers got a touchdown from Heyward’s interception, as Ben Roethlisberger threw a pass to Pat Freiermuth for a score to give the team a 14-0 lead.
