Cameron Heyward Likes Idea of Steelers Signing Aaron Rodgers: ‘It Would Be Really Cool’
Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward would be happy to team up with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward seemed to put Aaron Rodgers on notice last week as the waiting game continues for the free agent quarterback to make a decision on where he wants to play in 2025. The longtime Steelers team captain cleared the air on Wednesday, though.
“The pitch is, if you want to be a Steeler, be a Steeler. That’s all it was,” Heyward said on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.” “It wasn’t meant that I don’t like Aaron Rodgers or I’m against it.”
It’s a good thing if that’s how Heyward truly feels because the odds that Rodgers becomes a Steeler skyrocketed on Tuesday night when quarterback Russell Wilson joined the New York Giants on a one-year deal.
That leaves Rodgers’ options down to the Steelers or retirement, and the 41-year-old has shown no signs of wanting to retire after spending six hours at Pittsburgh’s facility last Friday.
It might feel like whiplash for Heyward, who heavily recruited Wilson last offseason, but he seems to be open to a new chapter with Rodgers as the team’s next quarterback.
“When I look at our team right now, it would be really cool to have a guy like Aaron Rodgers,” Heyward said. “But I can’t be the guy that gets it over the finish line. I think he’s got to make those decisions for himself. Excited to see what happens.”
It make sense. The soon-to-be 36-year-old Heyward is in win-now mode on the backend of his career. He’s open to anything that gets the Steelers closer to contending to a Super Bowl.

That’s exactly why he thinks Rodgers should end the wait and join Pittsburgh’s championship aspirations.
“If you come to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the goal is to win. We haven’t had the success that we want, but the goal is still in mind to raise a Lombardi and bring that seventh one to Pittsburgh,” Heyward said. “We don’t really care about the glitz and glam of New York, but the focus is on good, hard football, competing every day, challenging each other and try to go from there.”
In 2024, Rodgers completed 368 of 584 passes (63.0%) for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
