Can DBs Hold Up without DeShon Elliott? | Steelers Morning Rush
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s how the secondary will hold up while playing without strong safety DeShon Elliott against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Elliott missed practice on both Wednesday and Thursday after suffering a hamstring injury against the Cleveland Browns and seems likely to miss Sunday’s game in Philly. Without him, the Steelers can move Minkah Fitzpatrick to strong safety and play either Damontae Kazee or Cam Sutton at free safety. But those are less than ideal solutions to the problem.
The Eagles boast a deep group for receivers, with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith on the outside and Jahan Dotson on the inside. They’re also one of the league’s most dangerous running teams with Saquon Barkley, so secondaries can’t sell out to defend the pass.
How will the Steelers defend the Eagles? Alan breaks it down.
