Can Steelers Put All Eggs in 2026 QB Basket? | Steelers Morning Rush

Steelers

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s whether the team can or will put all of its eggs in the 2026 NFL Draft quarterback basket.

The 2026 NFL Draft quarterback class is expected to be a very strong one, led by players like Texas’ Arch Manning, Penn State’s Drew Allar and LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier. But as shown over the weekend, what looks like it will happen next year does not always come to pass. Nico Iamaleava was expected to be in that list before he departed Tennessee amid an NIL dispute over the weekend. Will he still be? It’s possible but far from certain at this point.

Even if the Steelers are able to trade up into the middle of a deep quarterback class, there’s no guarantee they’d hit on that pick. Maybe they’d get the next Ben Roethlisberger. Maybe they’d get Phillip Rivers, his less-successful but still-good draft classmate. Maybe they’d get J.P. Losman.

That’s why the Steelers are still looking hard the 2025 NFL Draft class, because nothing in the future is certain, and even if they don’t take a quarterback early in next week’s draft, they’ll probably take one at some point. Alan breaks it down.
