Georgia QB Carson Beck Could Be on Steelers Radar in 2025 Draft

Steelers GM Omar Khan Trade Deadline Salary Cap

Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus recently named one offensive player to watch for all 32 NFL teams in the 2025 NFL Draft. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, Sikkema thinks Georgia quarterback Carson Beck could be on their radar next year.

“Russell Wilson’s and Justin Fields‘ contracts expire after the 2024 season, and while the Steelers will be hoping one shows enough to secure the long-term starting quarterback job, that would be a surprise,” Sikkema wrote.

“Beck was one of the more impressive quarterbacks in college football by the end of 2023. His arm talent, ball placement and pocket presence give him NFL starter potential. He will enter the year as many analysts’ QB1.”

Many consider Beck as a top 5 draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, so unless the Steelers completely collapse this season, he most likely will be out of their range. A trade-up could occur, though.

However, Sikkema is right that the Steelers could be in need of a quarterback if the Russell Wilson and Justin Fields experiment is an absolute disaster. Beck, Shedeur Sanders, Garrett Nussmeier, and Jalen Milroe were all selected in the top 10 in the latest 33rd Team’s mock draft. The 33rd Team had the Steelers landing highly touted Colorado cornerback Travis Hunter at 14th overall.

Beck had a breakout season in 2023, completing 72.4 of his passes for 3,941 yards with 24 touchdowns, six interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 167.9. If Beck puts up a similar stat line in 2024, he very well could be the first overall pick in 2025.

The Steelers have drafted three Georgia Bulldogs in the last three drafts — George Pickens, Broderick Jones and Darnell Washington. Beck was teammates with all three at Georgia.

Unless something unforeseen happens, Beck will probably not be in reach for the Steelers. The franchise hasn’t had a top 5 pick since selecting Terry Bradshaw at No. 1 overall in 1970, and I don’t see that changing in 2024. The Steelers would have to absolutely fall apart to record a 4-13 record this season.

While it’s possible, I wouldn’t hold my breath on general manager Omar Khan making a massive trade-up to get Beck in the top 5. But perhaps the Steelers will be willing to take a gamble if the Russell Wilson and Justin Fields experiment is a disaster. Both quarterbacks are set to become unrestricted free agents in 2025.
