CBS Sports: Steelers SS Terrell Edmunds Could Be in for Big Payday after 2021 Season

Steelers SS Terrell Edmunds

The Steelers did not exercise their fifth-year option on strong safety Terrell Edmunds for the 2022 season, which means the former first-round pick and three-year starter will be a free agent at the end of this season.

General manager Kevin Colbert said the team has not been displeased with Edmunds’ performance, but that turning down the option was a move made with the salary cap considerations in mind.

But that doesn’t mean Edmunds isn’t in line for a big raise.

Despite the Steelers turning down his option, CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani listed Edmunds as an underrated Steelers player on the verge of a big payday.

“The Steelers have several notable players to re-sign in the future such as T.J. Watt, but if Edmunds has another great season in 2021, he could make himself some money,” Dajani wrote. “Whether that money will come from the Steelers or another team is yet to be determined.”

Edmunds started 12 games and played in 15 as the Steelers’ starting strong safety last season. His 68 tackles finished third on the team. Edmunds also had a sack, two interceptions and eight passes defended.
