Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa was placed on the team’s COVID-19 Reserve List as a close contact of another positive test because he has not been vaccinated, coach Brandon Staley said on Wednesday.
Bosa must quarantine for five days and continue to test negative, according to the NFL’s COVID-19 mitigation rules, which means that he could return to the active roster in time to face the Steelers on Sunday night, but he will not be able to practice this week.
Bosa was considered a close contact of defensive lineman Jerry Tillery, who has tested positive. Fellow defensive lineman Christian Covington has also tested positive.
Bosa, one of the NFL’s most feared pass rushers, has 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles on the season. Tillery is also a starter on the LA defense.
