The Kansas City Chiefs have removed quarterback Patrick Mahomes from the injury report and he’s officially good to go for Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans. Mahomes was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain after leaving his team’s 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday with the injury.
On the play, Mahomes got hit by Browns defensive linemen Dalvin Tomlinson and Mike Hall Jr. at the same time and got bent backwards. Mahomes’ ankle got rolled up on in the process.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters that after a full week of practice for Mahomes, “We’ll most likely end up playing him.”
Unless there’s a setback against Houston, Mahomes is on track to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Chritsmas Day at Acrisure Stadium.
Mahomes told reporters last week that he does not feel good about a three-game stretch in 11 days.
“It’s not a good feeling,” Mahomes admitted on Wednesday, via The Associated Press. “You never want to play this amount of games in this short of time. It’s not great for your body. But at the end of the day it’s your job, your profession, you have to come to work and do it.”
All you can do is focus on the game. The practice you have that day,” Mahomes added. “I try to prepare my body all year long for this stretch. That’s tailoring my workouts, tailoring how you practice and prepare, and the coaches do a great job of taking care of us on the practice field. We practice as hard as anybody, but they know how to dial it back when needed.”
The 13-1 Chiefs are two games up on the 11-3 Buffalo Bills for the No. 1 overall seed and first-round bye in the AFC Playoff Picture, but the Bills hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.
