Chiefs Sign Strong-Armed Ex-Steelers QB
The Steelers seventh-round pick from 2022, quarterback Chris Oladokun, is staying with the the Kansas City Chiefs after spending two seasons there and winning two Super Bowl rings. Oladokun has not played much. That tracks as the same thing that happened in Pittsburgh when he got hardly any reps in training camp and was released by the Steelers.
As a senior at South Dakota State, Oladokun led the Jackrabbits to an 11-4 record and threw for 3,164 yards, 25 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He also rushed for 166 yards last season and caught two touchdowns.
Prior to South Dakota State, Oladokun played at Samford and South Florida. Oladokun started nine of 19 games in two seasons at Samford, throwing for 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns. The Tampa Bay native saw limited action at South Florida, starting just two games in 2018, completing 22 of 44 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns.
Oladokun has spent time learning from Patrick Mahomes in others in the room and now will hope to leverage his growth into a spot on the roster.
Oladokun most likely will be a career backup, depending on how long he lasts in the league. He really wasn’t offered an opportunity in Pittsburgh, however, which is kind of head-scratching being that the Steelers spent a seventh-round pick on him. Perhaps Kansas City will give him a legitimate chance to learn and develop.
