Colin Cowherd: ‘Pittsburgh is the Best Possible Place’ for Kenny Pickett

Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 20 overall pick and Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd thinks it was the best possible landing spot for Pickett.

”I think one thing that sticks out to me, with this draft,” Cowherd said. “Is that when it’s not a star studded draft, where these players land matters. Let’s take Kenny Pickett. You know, I think he has a pretty low ceiling, but boy Pittsburgh is the best possible place.”

Cowherd goes on to name the reasons for his argument. Highlighting the teams offensive weapons at wide receiver, running back and tight end. He also thinks the offensive line will be better then it was last year.

Cowherd adds that the defensive front seven and defensive backs led by Minkah Fitzpatrick are also reasons Pickett is being drafted into a good situation. He then said that the strong coach and excellent culture were two more reasons the Pickett landing spot is the best possible outcome for him.

He then compared the Steelers pick with future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers who famously dropped to the Green Bay Packers at No. 24 in 2005.

“I don’t know how good Kenny Pickett is going to be,” Cowherd said, “but in a strange way, Aaron Rodgers dropping in the draft got him behind Brett Favre for years, right? Benefit – stable organization. Kenny Pickett dropping, gets him to the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

For Pickett, there is a chance he won’t have to sit behind a quarterback like Rodgers did though as Tomlin said that Pickett will compete with Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky for the team’s starting job. The general consensus around Pickett by experts leading up to the draft, was that the 23-year-old quarterback is pro ready.
