Colts QB Anthony Richardson May Miss Steelers Game
Electric Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson suffered a severe AC joint sprain against the Tennessee Titans last Sunday. It was so bad that the Colts placed Richardson on injured reserve. However, there was optimism that he would return this season after about six weeks, and thus for their game against the Steelers in mid-December. However, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Richardson is meeting with specialists and that surgery is a significant consideration. If that occurs, Richardson would be knocked out for the entire season.
He met with four or five doctors, and some recommended surgery, although the Colts hinted that Richardson would try to rehab the injury before getting the surgery. If he gets surgery and misses their game against the Steelers, the starter would be Gardner Minshew, one of the better backup quarterbacks in the NFL. Minshew already led the Colts to a win over the Baltimore Ravens and has plenty of starting experience in the NFL.
The team got Jonathan Taylor back and extended him to keep him with the team following his contract saga all offseason. Now, the Colts will not be able to see that duo for the considerable future, and potentially not until next season if Richardon is truly out for the season.
