The Washington Commanders revealed on Wednesday that they’ll pass out burgundy towels for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Northwest Stadium. The burgundy towels are an effort to combat a possible sea of Terrible Towels at the game. No other fanbase travels like Steelers Nation.

“I need whoever the powers at be, I need you all to give burgundy towels to every fan coming into the stadium, because you know the Steelers are going to come in with their yellow,” former Washington running back Brian Mitchell said, via the Commanders official X account. “We’re going to mix it together and it’s going to be burgundy and gold all throughout the stadium.ย  That’s going to look good on TV.”

Pittsburgh fans made a noticeable impact in the Steelersโ€™ Week 1 win over Atlanta. Steelers Nation was so loud that the Falcons had to go on a silent count at their home stadium. The Week 6 game against the Las Vegas Raiders was also filled with Steelers fans.

โ€œSteeler Nation is incredible, man,โ€ Watt said after the Atlanta game. โ€œIt is incredibly demoralizing for an offense to be on a silent count at their home field. Honestly, a lot of those plays go to them. The fumble I was able to land on because they had to be on a silent count at their place. Any time that happens when you have a lot of shifts and motions, snaps can go anywhere. The ball is on the ground I got to recover it.โ€

The Commanders are in first place in the NFC East at 7-2. New head coach Dan Quinn has changed the culture in the Nation’s Capital. They are also led by rookie sensation quarterback Jayden Daniels, who’s completed 163 of 228 pass attempts for 1,945 yards and nine touchdowns, with just two interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 106.7. Heโ€™s also racked up 459 yards on the ground and scored four touchdowns. Unless something unforeseen happens, Daniels will win NFL Rookie of the Year.

With the Commanders red-hot, it’s hard to imagine it being a complete Steelers Nation takeover, but there should still be a good amount of Black and Gold in the stands. Pittsburgh is only roughly four hours away from D.C., too.
