🏈 Legendary play-by-play announcer Al Michaels thinks Mike Tomlin would be fantastic at broadcasting.
“In a meeting with Mike, and this goes all the way back to when he took the job in 2007, he’s very interesting,” Michaels said during a recent appearance on the Sports Media with Richard Deitsch podcast. “And what he will do — especially in recent years — we’ll go in there’s a dance you can do in these meetings, who’s not gonna play… Mike will come in and he will give you the answers to all of the questions you have without you asking those questions.
“So, it’s very efficient for us. He’ll know what we want to know. And Mike will take the mic for maybe four or five or six minutes, whatever it takes to bring us up to speed with all of the things that he knows that we need to know. The other thing about Mike, is he’s so facile of tongue. I mean, he’s unbelievably well-read. I’ve always said — and I’ve said this on the air — if I had a debate team, I would make him my captain.
“All of these years, you have two or three running backs and they’re sharing time, everybody would call it, ‘Running Back by Committee.’ No, Mike called it ‘Distribution of Labor,’ which is just a beautiful way to describe the same thing without using a cliché.”
🏈 Actor Joe Manganiello, who is a Pittsburgh native and die-hard Steelers fan, appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon asked Manganiello about his Steelers fandom during the show.
🏈 The Steelers last playoff win came during the 2016-2017 season. Only eight teams have longer playoff win droughts than the Steelers — Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, Washington Commanders, Las Vegas Raiders and Miami Dolphins.
🏈 The Steelers employ the highest percentage (68%) of single-high coverage in the league, according to Matt Williamson of Steelers.com.
🏈 Ian Rapoport thinks the Steelers will make a change at the quarterback position if they get blown out by the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night.
“If the Steelers get blown out against the Ravens, I don’t think anything happens to Mike Tomlin, but I would say they take another look at the quarterback position and try to figure that out for next season,” Rapoport said on the Dan Patrick Show.
🏈 Russell Wilson and Matthew Stafford are the oldest quarterbacks in the playoffs. Wilson and Stafford are both 36, but Stafford is older by 297 days.
