Daily Links: No Comp Picks for Steelers; Bud Dupree Holdup

Bud Dupree

The Pittsburgh Steelers won’t get any additional help beyond their previously acquired seven picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, and the Tennessee Titans are releasing Bud Dupree, but just not yet.

? The NFL announced its compensatory picks on Thursday, and as expected, the Steelers did not receive any for this year.

? ESPN: The Tennessee Titans cannot release outside linebacker Bud Dupree until the start of the league year, March 15, due to his remaining guaranteed salary. But they plan to release him then. The move will save the Titans $9.35 million against their cap.

? Former Steelers offensive tackle and current Arizona Cardinal Kelvin Beachum said quarterback Kyler Murray needs to grow up a little to lead the team. “Grow up. Be a man and grow up,” Beachum told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.

? ESPN: Maurkice Pouncey was at his brother Mike Pouncey’s retirement ceremony with the Miami Dolphins on Thursday. Pouncey signed a one-day contract so he can officially retire as a Dolphin. Mike Pouncey said he and his brother lost 70 pounds since retirement. Said he was told they “eat like rabbits” now. His response: “Well when we were playing, we ate like pigs.”

? NFL Network: Buffalo Bills inside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds could receive a contract in the $15 million a year figure, according to Tom Pelissero. Edmunds is still only 24-years old despite already playing five NFL seasons.

? ESPN: Center Mason Cole was named the Steelers best free agent signing since 2018, while tight end Eric Ebron was deemed the worst.

? Former Steelers inside linebacker Vince Williams thinks this year’s draft class is loaded. “I feel like this could be one of the deepest drafts we’ve seen in a long time. Not a bunch of superstars but just a ton of really solid players. The skill and talent in football is going through the roof,” Williams tweeted.

? Happy 58th birthday to Steelers Hall of Fame cornerback Rod Woodson. Drafted by the Steelers in the first round out of Purdue in 1987, Woodson played 10 seasons in Pittsburgh and then went on to play seven more with the Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers.

Woodson won one Super Bowl in Baltimore and played in Super Bowl XXX with the Steelers, despite suffering an ACL tear earlier that season. He was an 11-time prowler and a six-time All-pro, the 1993 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. In 2009, he was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Currently, Woodson is the head coach of the Vegas Vipers of the XFL.

▶️ Old Time Football shared an NFL Films feature on John Hilton, a Steelers tight end in the 1960s who worked at Homestead Steel Works during the offseason.
