🏈 Colin Cowherd of FS1 thinks the Pittsburgh Steelers have been the same team the past 10 years, just a different variation.
🏈 Implementing Justin Fields into the offense could be beneficial for the Steelers against Baltimore on Saturday night, especially in the red zone. Head coach Mike Tomlin said on Monday that he’s open to utilizing Fields more.
“I’m certainly open to utilizing Justin. He has an awesome skillset. We’ve done some of that in the past. We’ve done less of it in recent weeks,” Tomlin said. “He experienced an injury, so a couple of weeks back, that slowed some of that, but certainly in an effort to win this game, I am open to any combination or combinations of the division of labor in an effort to do so.”
🏈 Dan Moore Jr. and Broderick Jones have both allowed a slew of sacks this season. Moore has given up 12, while Jones as surrendered 10, according to Pro Football Focus.
🏈 Alex Kemp’s crew will officiated the Steelers-Ravens Wild Card Round game on Sunday. Kemp’s crew did only one Steelers game this season: Week 3 vs. Chargers. The Steelers were called for three penalties for 15 yards in that game.
Of the NFL’s 17 crews, Kemp’s called the eighth-most penalties per game this season. Kemp’s crew also led the league in offensive- and defensive-holding flags, per NFLPenalties.com. The Ravens got nine penalties overall for 85 yards in the Week 7 win vs. Tampa Bay that Kemp officiated.
🏈 The Ravens rank No. 1 across the board in major defensive categories since Week 11 when Kyle Hamilton and Ar’Darius Washington were paired as a safety duo.
🏈 Russell Wilson ranks 30th out of 31 qualified quarterbacks in EPA per drop back over the last five weeks of the season.
🏈 During his Monday press conference, Mike Tomlin was asked about George Pickens yelling at a fan and being held back by Pat Freiermuth.
“That’s news to me. If I commented on it, I’d be speculating,” Tomlin said.
🏈 Monday marks the 45th anniversary of the infamous non-catch by Houston Oilers wide receiver Mike Renfro in the 1979 AFC Championship Game against the Steelers. during the AFC Championship at Pittsburgh. Renfro had both in feet in bounds, but the officials ruled it non-catch.
After the missed call, Pittsburgh went on to score 10 unanswered and defeated the Oilers, 27-13. It was the second consecutive year, the Steelers defeated the Oilers to earn a trip to the Super Bowl.
Renfro was ruled out-of-bounds, but officials’ use of instant replay wasn’t available — not implemented until 1986.
🏈 The Steelers have been held to under 20 points in six of nine games since Week 10. That’s tied with the Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants and New Orleans Saints for most games under 20 points in the NFL in that span, according to Daniel Valente of The Score.. … All of those teams are picking in the top 10 of the draft.
🏈 The only other time the Steelers played a postseason game in Baltimore was on Dec. 19, 1976, a 40-14 win over the Baltimore Colts.
A small plane crashed into the upper deck minutes after the game ended. Fans left early due to blowout Steelers win, likely saving lives. Only the pilot was injured.
