🏈 CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco thinks the Pittsburgh Steelers have reached their ceiling and overachieved in 2024.
“When we talk about the Steelers what do we usually say? Physical, run the ball, play great defense. They don’t really run the ball that well. And the defense isn’t as good as it has been in recent years,” Prisco said. “That’s a problem for them. This is a Mike Tomlin team, that’s why they’re in the playoffs. They’ve overachieved. They’re vulnerable in the playoffs.”
🏈 Steelers All-Pro outside linebacker T.J. Watt has the most sacks over the last 10 seasons (2015-2024), according to Daniel Valente of The Score. Watt has played in 30 less games than Khalil Mack, who ranks second in sacks during the 10-year span.
1. T.J. Watt – 108
2. Khalil Mack – 103.5 2.
3. Myles Garrett – 102.5
🏈 Entering Week 17, Steelers center Zach Frazier ranks second among centers in Pro Football Focus’ overall grade (79.4) and first in run-blocking (81.3). In addition, Frazier has zero pressures allowed on 48 pass-blocking snaps.
🏈 Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow leads all quarterbacks in completions (248) and yards (2,234) on passes under 2.5 seconds this season, while also being tied with Baker Mayfield in touchdowns (20) on such passes, according to Matt Williamson of Steelers.com. The Steelers have allowed the most yards (1,810) and worst EPA on passes under 2.5 seconds this season.
🏈 Pat Freiermuth will be pulling for the Cleveland Browns this week. A Steelers’ win over the Bengals coupled with a Baltimore loss to Cleveland would grant Pittsburgh the AFC North title.
“We want to get back on that winning track. We have a great opportunity in front of us to get to 11-6, and, hopefully… big Browns fan this week. Never thought I’d say that. But hopefully some magic can happen in the first game, and we can win the division in our game,” Freiermuth said on 102.5 WDVE.
🏈 Rich Eisen said the Steelers’ three-game losing streak has been deflating.
“The last couple of weeks in Pittsburgh have just been so deflating for the fan base. We thought we’d finally gotten through the last few years of just middling our way into a winning record in the playoffs only to get boat-raced by a clearly better opponent in the playoffs,” Eisen said on The Overreaction Monday Podcast. “They thought they’d gotten through that. Then, the last couple of weeks makes them feel like it’s just reverting to that mean. Pittsburgh is not going to win the division.”
🏈 Jimmy Carter was the first United States president to host a Super Bowl championship team at the White House. On February 22, 1980, a ceremony was held honoring the “City of Champions” — the NFL’s 1979 Steelers and baseball’s 1979 World Series champion Pittsburgh Pirates.
🏈 Tuesday marks the 35-year anniversary of the Steelers thrilling 26-23 overtime win over the Houston Oilers in the 1989 Wild Card Round game.
