DB’s Steelers Film Room: Justin Fields Flashes Potential vs. Broncos
DB's Pittsburgh Steelers Film Room: Justin Fields flashed his full potential in the first half of the Denver Broncos.
To his credit, Justin Fields play through the first two weeks of the season has invited some speculation about who should be the Steelers starting quarterback, even when Russell Wilson is deemed healthy enough to play. The stat lines haven’t exactly jumped off the screen but he’s provided some dynamic plays and taken good care of the football in his first couple of appearances. Against an underrated Denver Broncos defense in week two, Fields had a really strong first half as the offense was humming, moving the ball up and down the field through their first several drives.
SN analyst Derrick Bell breaks down the impressive flashes shown in the early portion of the contest, specifically relating to Fields athleticism outside the pocket and his accuracy to different levels of the field. This is a performance that requires a good bit of context because similar to week one, there were additional positive reps that were wiped away due to penalties that would have made the box score numbers look even more gaudy.
Right now, the Steelers offense is looking for more sustained consistency from the entire unit as a whole but you can clearly see why the team felt compelled enough to trade for him back in the spring. So far with Pittsburgh off to a 2-0 start, that looks like a good investment to say the least.
