A year after finishing 28th in scoring, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense will look quite a bit different in 2024, which is a good thing. Can new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith repair his reputation after an unspectacular head coaching stint in Atlanta? Will he be able to get the most of this new-look quarterback room of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields? It’s well-documented that Wilson has the upper hand entering training camp but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Fields will, or should, be a non-participant on game days. After all, we’re talking about one of the best athletes that we’ve ever seen at the quarterback position.
SN analyst Derrick Bell covers multiple topics in this weeks film room episode: Smith’s favorite red zone rushing concept, designing a package of plays tailored for Fields and the necessary wrinkles to incorporate from forward-thinking offenses around the league. With the AFC, and particular the AFC North, slated to be insanely competitive once again, it’s to be crucial for the Steelers offense to find innovative ways to stress defenses and score points. Utilizing the QB run game and all the advantages that fall into that bucket should be a no-brainer decision.
