DB’s Steelers Film Room: Zach Frazier an Immediate Upgrade at Center
Steelers Now Film Room with Derrick Bell: Second-round rookie center Zach Frazier from West Virginia will be an immediate upgrade.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have reported to training camp and one of the battles to watch will be at the center position, where veteran Nate Herbig will be attempting to hold off second-round selection Zach Frazier. The West Virginia products extensive resume on film speaks to how talented he is but his experience stemming from starting in over 40 collegiate contests, means that he’s likely to assume the starting gig sooner rather than later. Over the past of off-seasons, we’ve seen the franchise make massive investments in the trenches, while also hiring a run-first offensive coordinator in Arthur Smith.
SN analyst Derrick Bell breaks down Frazier’s college film, highlighting his strengths, centered around his play strength, competitive toughness and technical savvy. All of those traits made him an intriguing prospect but there are still a couple areas that he’ll need to improve on in order to hit his ceiling in Pittsburgh. Beyond the film review, this video covers what to expect from Frazier in year one and as he moves throughout his career. With Cam Heyward and Keeanu Benton as his adversaries throughout training camp, it’s safe to say that he’ll have to grow up fairly quickly in Latrobe.
