Details Emerge in Death of Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins

Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was killed in a car accident Saturday morning after spending time training with teammates including running backs and receivers, and now new details have surfaced on the cause of Haskins’s death. 

Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lieutenant Indiana Miranda confirmed the South Florida tragedy which occurred on westbound Interstate 595. 

“He was just walking on the highway and got hit,” Miranda told the Associated Press. 

Interstate 595 runs through Broward County, Florida. Haskins had been trining with teammates, including fellow quarterback Mitch Trubisky, backs and receivers, in nearby Boca Raton, Florida.

Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Florida Highway Patrol has released additional information on the incident, confirming the victim was Haskins. 

“Mr. Haskins was walking on a limited access facility (highway/expressway) for unknown reasons. He was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 when there was oncoming traffic. Unfortunately, he collided with an oncoming dump truck,” the FHP said in a press release.

The FHP confirmed that a traffic homicide investigation is underway.

He would have turned 25 in less than a month on May 3. An outcry of sadness flooded social media mourning the death of Haskins, including from Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin
