Did Steelers Botch Their QB Situation? Steelers Morning Rush

Steelers

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s the Steelers turning over their entire quarterback room for the second consecutive offseason.

With Russell Wilson signing with the New York Giants on Tuesday, it’s been confirmed that the Steelers will have an entirely new quarterback room for the second straight season, going from Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph to Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen to now Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, likely Aaron Rodgers and maybe a rookie.

Why are people upset by this? It’s been obvious for weeks that the Steelers had no real interest in bringing Russell Wilson back. It’s also been obvious that Rodgers is the likely move at quarterback.

And so what if it’s an entirely new room? Did they get what they wanted out of it last year? Obviously not. This change isn’t guaranteed to succeed, but aren’t people up in arms about Mike Tomlin promising changes? Changes in the NFL don’t get much bigger than firing six quarterbacks in two years.

Alan breaks it down.
