Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson is feeling very good about his third stop in the NFL this season.

On Monday, he spoke with reporters about making his Houston Texans’ debut in Week 18 and he expects to make an impact sooner rather than later.

“I feel myself fitting in real well. Just knowing C.J. (Stroud) a little bit,” Johnson said via Aaron Wilson of KPRC2. “Just to finally get here and be in the offense with him, it’s a blessing. Just his talent that he brings to the game.”

Johnson’s 2024 season has been a rollercoaster, to say the least. The Texans claimed him off waivers a week ago after being waived by the Ravens, with whom he recorded just one catch for six yards in four games.

Baltimore traded a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Carolina Panthers for Johnson in October, and it’s safe to say it didn’t work out. Many have chalked up his short stint with the Ravens to him not fitting well in the locker room, but he seems to be putting his new team first.

“Team first. Everybody’s about the team. I’m about the team, too. So I’m doing whatever the coaches ask me to do,” Johnson said. “Just contributing in some sort of way. That’s all I’m really worried about.”

Only time will tell if Johnson’s actions back his words, but that’s what the Texans are hoping for after suffering several injuries at wide receiver and a spot in the playoffs locked up.

The Steelers are also thin at wide receiver, but they reportedly didn’t even try to reunite with Johnson.

That seems to sum up how the Steelers feel about Johnson, but he’s putting the past behind him, anyway.

“Fresh start here,” Johnson said. “I had a good time there. I got some good teammates over there that I got to know. Those relationships, they’re gonna be there. Like I said, I’m moving forward here. I’m trying to win games and go far in the playoffs.”
