Diontae Johnson Responds to Lawsuit for Missing Football Camp
A week ago, it was reported that Diontae Johnson would be sued for no-showing a youth football camp that he was to host. FlexWork Sports Management LLC sued Johnson for not letting them know that he would be unable to arrive after they helped organize Johnson’s camp.
During the rundown of the lawsuit, FlexWork mentioned that Johnson failed to notify them that he would not be coming to the camp only shortly before it was about to begin. The camp included a $125 fee that would have a photo with Johnson as part of the fee. FlexWork claims they had to refund these fees as a result, and was seeking over $36,000 as a result of the no-show from Johnson.
On Tuesday, however, Johnson and his agent, Brad Cicala, responded to the claims. In the rebuttal, they claim that FlexWork never worked to accommodate travel for Johnson. Throughout the process, Johnson paid for his own travel despite that, and when flight delays and cancellations came up, Johnson was unable to make it to the camp.
“The allegations that Diontae Johnson purposefully failed to appear to his scheduled youth football camp are completely false,” the statement read. “What FlexWorks conveniently leaves out of this story are the countless breaches of the arrangement with Mr. Johnson, including the failure to facilitate his timely arrival.”
As a result, Diontae Johnson is refuting the lawsuit, claiming that FlexWorks did abide by their end of the deal. The statement continues, noting that the lawsuit is a ‘money grab’ and that Johnson’s only ‘guilt’ is that he ever trusted FlexWorks to set up the camp successfully.
The process of the lawsuit is still in motion, but Johnson, his agent, and his attorney are out to fight the allegations. Johnson recently signed a 2-year, $36.71 million extension with the Steelers.
