Joey Porter Jr. among Eight Steelers Out with Injury vs. Lions

DETROIT — At least eight Pittsburgh Steelers players will miss the team’s preseason finale with injuries and are not uniform for Saturday’s Week 3 preseason game against the Detroit Lions, including starting cornerback Joey Porter, Jr.

Running back Jaylen Warren, wide receiver Roman Wilson, tackles Troy Fautanu and Dylan Cook, defensive lineman Logan Lee, outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon, inside linebacker Tyler Matakevich and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. are all scratched from the lineup for Saturday.

Additionally, veteran defenders Cam Heyward and T.J. Watt are not expected to play, per a team source, though they are dressed. Alex Highsmith (groin) is dressed but could also be held out.

Two players, running back Jonathan Ward (hamstring) and cornerback Beanie Bishop (undisclosed) appear set to make their returns from injury.

Warren (hamstring) and Matakevich (foot/ankle) were both injured in last week’s preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills and have not been practicing. 

Porter and Lee both have undisclosed injuries. Porter has not been practicing, with Cory Trice Jr. elevated to a starting spot with him out of the lineup.

Moon played sparingly against the Bills and was seen at practice in a walking boot this week. Cook played through a foot/ankle injury, but did not practice this week and has also been in a boot.

Fautanu (knee) and Wilson (ankle) are both dealing with medium-term injures. Wilson stepped up his rehab, doing individual work at practice this week, and seems closer to a return than Fautanu.
