Ex-Ravens LB Thinks Steelers Are Frauds: ‘We’ve Seen This Story’
Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Bart Scott doesn’t give the Pittsburgh Steelers much of a chance in the AFC Playoffs. He thinks it’s going to be a repeat of what it’s been over the last seven years.
The Steelers have lost five straight playoff games, dating back to the 2016 AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots. They’ve allowed 202 points in those five losses, an average of 40.1 points per game.
The Steelers’ seven-year playoff drought is the longest for the franchise since pre-1972. They only have three players on the current roster who’ve experienced a playoff win with the Steelers — Cam Heyward, Chris Boswell and Tyler Matakevich.
“It’s been a mirage,” Scott said on ESPN’s Get Up. “We’ve been this story from the Steelers for the last couple of years. Mike Tomlin is one of the best coaches in all of football. He’s not gonna lose, and the team’s not gonna beat themselves, but in recent times, now that they have to step up to the varsity, you see Russell Wilson burping the baby.
“He’s been sacked 10 times in the last three games, which puts them in a place where their offense just isn’t equipped to be able to recover from. He’s had three interceptions and fumbles as well. That’s a bad recipe for success.”
Oddsmakers have the Steelers as 7.5-point underdogs if they play the Baltimore Ravens in the opening round of the playoffs, while they’re tabbed as 1.5-point underdogs if they play Houston in the Wild Card Round. Scott thinks the Steelers only have a chance if they play the Texans in the first round.
“We’ve seen this the last four times Mike Tomlin has been in the postseason, he’s been one and done. I don’t see anything changing that unless they get the Houston Texans,” he said.
