The Cincinnati Bengals have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Carlos Davis, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. Davis, a seventh-round selection by the Steelers in 2020, most recently was with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL.

Carlos Davis is the twin brother of Houston Texans defensive tackle Khalil Davis. Khalil was also with the Steelers in 2021.

Carlos Davis has 12 tackles (three for loss) and one sack in 12 career games with the Steelers from 2020-2022. Davis played 54 snaps and recorded seven tackles in his rookie year. His snaps decreased in 2021 and 2022, however. Davis appeared in just one game in 2022, playing 12 snaps against the Philadelphia Eagles. He recorded one tackle and his first career sack.

Davis signed with the Atlanta Falcons in June of 2023 but was cut at the end of training camp. On Oct. 6, 2023, he signed with the Birmingham Stallions. Davis re-joined the Falcons in December, signing with the team’s practice squad. The Stallions released him so he could sign with Atlanta.

After not receiving a futures contract with the Falcons, Davis was re-signed by the Stallions on Jan. 19, 2024. He had a banner year, too — recording 23 tackles, four tackles for loss, and seven sacks. Davis posted a 73.5 defensive grade, according to Pro Football Focus. Davis was named to the 2024 All-UFL Team after the season.

Carlos Davis said his brother Khalil’s success in Birmingham led him to the Stallions.

“I got to watch five games of Khalil with this team last year. I got to watch him join this team, and from what I saw, I loved it. I was going to be a Birmingham Stallion regardless, and I’m glad I made this decision,” Carlos Davis said earlier this year.

Davis joins a Bengals defensive line that’s been hampered by injuries. Cincinnati also signed defensive end Andre Carter and defensive tackle Josh Pryor this week.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor revealed during his Monday press conference that defensive end Cam Sample suffered a torn Achilles tendon and is out for the season. Taylor called it a “huge loss” to the Bengals’ defensive line.

“That was unfortunate. Cam’s been a huge part of our team, played a lot of different roles, been awesome in the locker room,” Taylor said. “We’ll obviously support him in his recovery. Plan on him being around. Surgery not been determined yet — when, where, who. Unfortunate for him and the team because he was a big part of it.”
