Felony charges have been dropped against Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Jarron Jones after a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, his attorney told Steelers Now.

Jones, a 27-year-old tackle that spent the 2020 season on the Steelers practice squad, had been charged with aggravated assault, strangulation and simple assault in connection with a domestic disturbance in October.

Jones allegedly strangled his girlfriend, hit her in the face and struck her with a gaming console, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the Post-Gazette.

The felony charges of aggravated assault and strangulation were dismissed in a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, attorney Robert Del Greco Jr. confirmed. Prosecution will move forward on the charge of simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor. A formal arraignment in the case is scheduled for Aug. 16.

Jones re-signed with the Steelers on a reserve/future contract for the 2021 season in December and has been with the team through its spring conditioning, OTA and minicamp sessions.

Whether Jones is found guilty or not, he could still face supplemental discipline from the NFL.
