Former Cincinnati Bengals and Kentucky tight end Justin Rigg has signed to the Steelers practice squad, he announced on Thursday.

Rigg was released by the Bengals on Tuesday during the final roster cutdowns. During the preseason, Rigg caught a touchdown for the Bengals against the Los Angeles Rams. Rigg is an Ohio native, having grown up 40 miles outside of Cincinnati in Springboro, Ohio.

During his time as a Kentucky Wildcat, Rigg set the school record by playing in 63 games overall. That was over six seasons with Kentucky. Rigg made 35 starts, including starting in his final 16 collegiate games. Over his career, Rigg racked up 547 receiving yards and five touchdowns along with 50 receptions.

Justin Rigg becomes the tenth known member of the Steelers practice squad and the second to be added on Thursday after Mark Gilbert. He is the first tight end to join the practice squad after Kevin Rader and Jace Sternberger have yet to sign onto the Steelers practice squad.

The Steelers now have six available spots on their practice squad. They can put as many as 16 players on the practice squad. Up to two practice squad players can be activated to the game-day roster each week without needing to be added to the 53-man roster. Each practice squad player can be called up three times in a season before they must be added to the 53-man roster.
