Antonio Brown will be returning to the football field to play for the first time in over a year, as he will play for the Albany Empire next Saturday, he confirmed to Rodger Wyland of WNYT.
Brown has not played football since running out of the field in New York as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in early 2022. He is the owner of the Albany Empire and declared his intentions to suit up for the team early last week. Now, those plans appear to be coming to fruition.
He will play that game against the Fayetteville Mustangs, and the game will take place at 7 p.m. in Albany at the MVP Arena. A seven-time pro bowler, Brown is hoping that he can give his team the boost they need after they were crushed by the Jacksonville Sharks 79-34 on Saturday night.
Brown will take the field with a new coach, as Tom Menas, the Albany Empire’s once-head coach, resigned from the team on Sunday. There has been a flurry of resigning from players to coaches over issues that Brown has not been executing his end of the deal as an owner.
Since Brown assumed 95 percent ownership of the Empire franchise, the team has been marred with issues including the failure to pay players on time and suspensions. The team will hire a new coach, with Brown saying the coach will be John Audino. However, Audino still says that he has not accepted the offer and is not sure if he will do so.
Regardless, Antonio Brown’s return to the field is a big occasion. He hopes that can give his team the spark that he seemingly wants after he flamed his team via Twitter on Saturday night, citing his displeasure with everyone from coaches to players to even the trainer.
