Pittsburgh Steelers CB Cam Sutton

Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton is wanted on domestic violence charges in Hillsborough County, Florida, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office announced on Wednesday.

Sutton, 29, is wanted on a charge of domestic battery by strangulation, defined in the Florida statutes as when a person “knowingly and intentionally, against the will of another, impedes the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of a family or household member or of a person with whom he or she is in a dating relationship, so as to create a risk of or cause great bodily harm by applying pressure on the throat or neck of the other person or by blocking the nose or mouth of the other person.” It is a third-degree felony.

Sutton finished his first season with the Detroit Lions in 2023. A third-round draft pick of the Steelers out of Tennessee in 2017, Sutton spent six seasons in Pittsburgh as a slot and outside cornerback, becoming a full-time starter for the first time in 2021.

Last offseason, he signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Lions as a free agent. Sutton played and started all 17 games in Detroit in 2023, recording 65 tackles, four tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble and six passes defended. He also started three playoff games as the Lions made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

A Jonesboro, Georgia native, Sutton does not have an extensive public criminal background. Court records in Hillsborough County show just a pair of traffic citations, before the current warrant.
