Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Antoine Brooks Jr. is signing with the Memphis Showboats of the United Football League, the league announced. Back in the 2021 offseason and in training camp, Brooks looked like a candidate to start.  However, as the man who was supposed to potentially start in the nickel, Brooks was injured and then waived with an injury settlement after being placed on the injured reserve.

Follow tha, the Los Angeles Rams added Brooks to their practice squad. The Steelers had tried to bring him back from injured reserve. However, in order to bring him back, they would have been forced to wait three weeks after his injury settlement period. Meanwhile, other teams were free to sign Brooks as they wished.

But that stint in Los Angeles did not work out for Brooks. Now, he lands in the UFL with a chance to make some noise and get back into the NFL after his stint out of the league.

A 2020 sixth-round pick out of Maryland, Brooks played did not make the team last season, but was added to the practice squad and eventually elevated to the roster.

After playing mostly at safety in 2020, he was moved to slot corner in 2021, and was the team’s first option to replace Mike Hilton as a Nickel corner before his injury in training camp.
