Former Steelers Linebacker Getting Closer to On-Field Return

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Kwon Alexander is on his way back to the field after tearing his Achilles during the season.

Kwon Alexander and Cole Holcomb became the prime examples of a Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker room that played well but could not stay healthy in 2023. Holcomb is still working his way back and expects to return shortly. But the exact timeline is not clear just yet.

However, Alexander remains a free agent and has posted multiple videos showcasing his rehab. It seems that Alexander’s starting to cut and get even closer to returning from a torn Achilles he suffered against the Green Bay Packers in November 2023.

Since the Steelers added Payton Wilson and Patrick Queen to the room, a return for Alexander seems out of the question. But if Holcomb is not going to be ready for Week 1, it can not be completely ruled out. Alexander played well for Pittsburgh when he did play last season. Still, given the limited sample size due to his injury, the team decided it would be best to load up on multiple linebackers this offseason to protect themselves against the injury bug again.

By the end of the year, even Elandon Roberts was banged up with a pec injury. Guys like Mark Robinson, Mykal Walker, and Myles Jack became starters and played a lot throughout the games. Roberts ended up having to play significant snaps as players became overexposed or others went down with injuries.

Alexander would make a deep room, perhaps the deepest linebacker room in the league. But Alexander likely wants to head to a place with a clear path to playing time. For the Steelers, Alexander does not have a clear path to the field, especially if Holcomb is on track to start the season. So, if this reunion does end up happening, it will almost certainly happen closer to the season.
