Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Matt Feiler has hit the open marker, as he is being released by the Los Angeles Chargers in a reshuffling of the offensive line in Inglewood, according to NFL Network.

The Chargers agreed to sign Trey Pipkins III on a free agent deal earlier on Tuesday, and Los Angeles will move second-year lineman Jamaree Salyer from tackle to left guard, the position they initially intended him to play when they drafted him out of Georgia.

That leaves Feiler without a spot, and his release will save the Chargers $6.5 million while introducing a $2 million dead salary cap hit.

Feiler started 33 of the 34 games at left guard over the last two seasons with the Chargers, where he signed a three-year $21 million free agent contract in 2021.

A 30-year-old native of Bloomsburg, Pa., Feiler got his NFL start on the Houston Texans, but got his real chance when the Steelers claimed him on waivers in 2015.

Feiler spent his first two seasons in Pittsburgh on the practice squad, Feiler made the team as a backup at right guard in 2017. He moved to tackle as a backup in 2018, and then won the starting job at right tackle in 2019. In 2020, he moved to left guard where he was a regular starter. The Steelers replaced Feiler with Kevin Dotson after his departure in 2021.

The Steelers could be interested in bringing back the versatile Feiler, who has started at three position along the line. The team made a start at upgrading its offensive line on Tuesday, when the team agreed to sign former Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets guard Nate Herbig.
