Former Steelers Player Works Out Star Florida State CB at Pro Day

The Pittsburgh Steelers top brass skipped the Michigan pro day on Friday, one of their usual annual stops, and home to some of the top Steelers prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft.
With free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers visiting UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side on Friday, general manager Omar Khan, head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith stayed behind in Pittsburgh, while defensive coordinator Teryl Austin headed up the Pittsburgh contingent in Ann Arbor.
The Steelers also had representation at the Florida State pro day on Friday. Cornerback Azareye’h Thomas went through positional drills led by former Steelers cornerback and current team scout, Ike Taylor.
Josh Liskiewitz of Pro Football Focus believes Thomas would be an ideal fit for the Black and Gold at 21st overall.
Given how the secondary performed down the stretch, the Steelers certainly are in need of another top-tier cornerback to pair with Joey Porter Jr. The Steelers signed Super Bowl champion cornerback Darius Slay in free agency, but he’s 34 years old.
“Thomas has excellent size at 6-foot-1 and 191 pounds, and he uses his length and frame effectively in man coverage. He gave up completions on less than 48% of throws into his coverage in each of the past two seasons and forced a combined 20 incompletions and two interceptions over that span,” Liskiewitz wrote.
Thomas started all 12 games at cornerback for Florida State last season. He was second on the teamwith 52 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, four pass breakups and an interception. He was honorable mention All–ACC and won the Bobby Bowden Leadership Award.
Thomas posted an unofficial (hand-timed) 4.50-4.55 40 yard dash at his pro day. Thomas stands at 6-foot-1, 197 pounds and has 32’ 3/8” inch arms.
Thomas is projected to go in the first round of April’s NFL Draft.
