Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs tried out with the Baltimore Ravens this week, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

Dobbs is an unrestricted free agent, but the Steelers do not appear interested in re-signing the longtime backup at this point. Dobbs spent the entire 2021 season on the injured reserve list after suffering a turf toe injury in training camp.

In five seasons in Pittsburgh, Dobbs played in only six games. He completed 10 of 17 passes for 31 yards and no touchdowns. He made five appearances in the 2018 season. His last game in a Steelers uniform was in the 2020 season Week 17 loss to the Cleveland Browns, when the Steelers used him as a change of pace rushing option to starter Mason Rudolph.

Dobbs joined the Steelers as a fourth round draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Steelers traded Dobbs to the Jacksonville Jaguars prior to the 2019 season, but claimed him off waivers the following season.

Dobbs also tried out with the New England Patriots two weeks ago in late March, signaling that he could have future opportunities elsewhere in the NFL outside of Pittsburgh.

The Steelers signed Mitch Trubisky to replace retired starter Ben Roethlisberger this offseason and the team is heavily scouting quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft class, from first-round options like Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett all the way down to potential day three or UDFA players like South Dakota State’s Chris Oladokun, so it seems likely that the Steelers will fill the fourth spot on the quarterback depth chart with a rookie this spring.

An aerospace engineering major at the University of Tennessee, Dobbs has interned with NASA over the last two offseasons and this year launched the ASTROrdinary Dobbs Foundation, a non-profit that aims to uplift children and communities at-large through educational and professional programs.
