Former Steelers RB LaGarrette Blount Announces Retirement

Former Steelers running back LaGarrette Blount announced his retirement from the NFL in an Instagram post on Saturday.

Blount, 34, last played in the NFL in 2018 with the Detroit Lions. He also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans in a nine-year NFL career.

Blount joined the Steelers on a two-year free agent contract in 2014 to be Le’Veon Bell’s backup, but was released after 11 games for leaving the sideline early in a game against the Titans in which he did not receive any carries.

He finished his Steelers career with 266 yards on 65 carries for a 4.1 yards per carry average and two touchdowns.

Blount cleared waivers and re-signed with New England, where he had played in 2013. He spent two more seasons with the Patriots, winning two Super Bowls. Blount would then win another ring as a member of the Eagles, beating the Patriots.

In his nine seasons, Blount had 1,495 carries for 6,306 yards and 56 touchdowns. He led the NFL in rushing touchdowns with New England in 2016 and was a member of the PFWA All-Rookie team with the Titans in 2010 after going undrafted out of Oregon.
