Former Steelers TE Lands with USFL Champion
Former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jace Sternberger has landed with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL, the league announced. Sternberger is among many former players to land in the UFL, and the Stallions are the USFL champions.
Sternberger was one of five tight ends who ended up being in Steelers training camp in 2022. He was a third-round draft pick out of Texas A&M in the 2019 NFL Draft with the Green Bay Packers. Sternberger’s time in Green Bay ran out in 2021, and he bounced around teams, landing with the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders before finally landing with the Steelers.
Throughout his time with the Packers, Sternberger racked up 12 receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown across three seasons. In his last season with Texas A&M, Sternberger was named a first-team All-SEC selection, and received first-team All-American honors as well.
The Steelers re-signed Sternberger to a futures contract in January of 2022. Throughout training camp, Sternberger made some wow plays, but he consistently had issues with drops and his blocking was inconsistent. That led to his release. Since that time, Sternberger has not found a clear foothold into the NFL, forcing him to prove himself in the spring leagues, and he will look to do so once again in the UFL.
