Free agent guard Trai Turner joined SiriusXM NFL Radio on Saturday to discuss his health and preferences when choosing his next team.
After he was hampered by a groin injury in 2020, Turner said he is once again healthy and looking forward to bouncing back this year.
“I’m back at 100%,” he said. “Last year was a rough season for me with injuries and just overall COVID. But hey, you know, you go through things and situations arise that you work through and get through. So I’m feeling good. I’m just ready to come back and have a phenomenal season.”
With regards to choosing his next team, Turner said he is prioritizing winning over anything.
“I want to put myself in the best situation to go out and win,” he said. “I mean I think that’s everybody’s goal is to go out there and win and play some good ball… I just want to land in a position where I can just fall on my feet and hit the ground running. You know, just come out and stack some games and get some wins. When you win, it changes a lot of things and I do know that.”
Turner visited the Pittsburgh Steelers last Friday, as the club looks for an insurance policy behind veteran David DeCastro.
DeCastro battled a knee injury much of last season, and his long-term health is still a question mark after he did not participate in last week’s minicamp.
Selected in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft by Panthers, the 28-year-old Turner earned five Pro Bowl nods while in Carolina. After signing a four-year, $20.5 million contract extension in 2017, Turner was traded to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for tackle Russell Okung in March of 2020. He started nine games at right guard for the Bolts last season, but was cut earlier this offseason in a money-saving move.
