Friday Take Five: Pressley Harvin III, Car Guy

Pressley Harvin III's Car

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers’ parking lot is about what you’d expect for the daily rides of a group of young men that are getting paid very well to do their day jobs. There are BMWs and Bentleys, lifted trucks and Teslas, and just about every kind of luxury SUV you can think of. But the ride that stands out the most probably belongs to Steelers punter Pressley Harvin III.

Punters aren’t usually flashy guys, but Harvin isn’t most punters in a lot of ways, and his lifelong passion for muscle cars led him to purchase and customize his red 2015 Dodge Challenger.

Our Friday Take Five this week is with Pressley Harvin III, car guy.

Steelers Now: So you got the car last year, right after you signed your contract. Was that something you had been thinking about for a long time?

Pressley Harvin III: That is my baby … That was my dream car, man. One of them. Honestly, that was something I’ve always been looking forward to since when they first came out back in 2015. I have a 2015. I wanted to get the older one because it was the first one.

Here’s Harvin taking his grandmother for a ride:

SN: Have you always been into cars?

PH3: I’ve always been a car guy, since I was a little kid. I used to take toy cars apart, try to put them back together, all type of stuff. I was really really into like NASCAR races and stuff as a kid.

SN: It seems like you have a lot of custom stuff done to yours. Do you do any of it yourself?

PH3: One of the biggest things I do is visual customizations right now. I’d like to learn about engine building and stuff somewhere down the line when I get the actual time. One of the big things I do is LED lighting, custom paint, custom painted calipers. Stuff like that.

SN: Is this something you’d like to do after football?

PH3: Yeah, it’s a different aspect of the table for what I want to do. Just continuing to learn here and there on the car and just being able to be un a position to where one day you’re gonna be a business owner and be able to have that car shop.

SN: So if the Challenger was the big purchase with your first contract, what do you have in mind for the next one?

PH3: I’m a big Dodge guy, big Mopar guy. Honestly, it would probably have to be a ’69 Charger, or one of those R34 (Nissan Skyline) GT-Rs they drive in The Fast and the Furious, or maybe rather an ACR Dodge Viper. One of those three.
