George Pickens Doesn’t Want to Talk About Browns Game: ‘Just Here So I Won’t Get Fined’
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris has made it no secret that he considers former Seattle Seahawks star Marshawn Lynch to be one of his mentors. Apparently, George Pickens is a big fan, as well.
Speaking with the Pittsburgh media for the first time since his inflammatory post-game comments in Cleveland after the Steelers’ 24-19 loss to the Browns on Thursday Night Football, Pickens declined to comment in the same way that Lynch made famous back in 2015.
“I’m just here so I won’t get fined.”
Pickens repeatedly refused to answer questions about things that had happened in the Browns loss, during which Pickens got into a post-whistle scuffle with Cleveland cornerback Greg Newsome II. Pickens then blamed the Steelers loss on the snowy weather conditions and the officiating, while saying the Browns are not a good team.
Pickens was slightly more willing to talk about issues such as fellow former Georgia Bulldog and current Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards calling him his favorite player: “he’s a great basketball player” and the importance of winning the upcoming two division games: “you want to finish every seasons strong.”
Pressed about whether or not he had been fined by the league for his post-game fight with Newsome, Pickens again said, “I’m just here right now so I don’t get fined.” He also declined to respond to Newsome calling him “fake tough” after the game.
Cleveland.com has reported that the NFL is expected to review the incident. Pickens has already been fined multiple times this season. The NFL typically levies fines from the previous week on Saturdays.
