Giants Release Ex-Steelers Special Teams Ace From Practice Squad
The New York Giants have released former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and special teams ace Miles Boykin from their practice squad, according to Dan Salomone of Giants.com. The Steelers are in need of gunner on the punt team, so it will be interesting to see if a reunion could be on tap.
Boykin saw significant playing time as a special teamer with the Steelers last season, playing on four phases. He finished the season with five tackles.
Boykin, 27, spent the last two seasons with the Steelers. In 2023, he appeared in all 17 regular season games and the team’s playoff game. He was dressed as the club’s No. 5 wide receiver for the entire season, but was used sparingly in the passing game. Boykin finished with three catches on four targets for 17 yards. In his 85 offensive snaps, he was used primarily as a run blocker.
Originally a third-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens out of Notre Dame in 2019, Boykin left the AFC North for the first time in his pro career when he signed with the Giants. He had his best statistical season with the Ravens in 2020, catching 19 passes for 266 yards and four touchdowns.
Boykin started the year quickly for the Ravens as he posted three receptions for 37 yards in Week 1 and four receptions for 38 yards in Week 2. After that, his production dipped a bit but recorded a season-high 43 receiving yards in the team’s regular-season finale.
After a career year, Boykin started the 2021 season on the Ravens’ injured reserve but was activated to the active roster a few weeks later. Boykin appeared in eight games in his third season and caught his only target of the year for six yards.
Injuries limited him to eight games in 2021 and the Steelers claimed him off waivers in April 2022. He re-signed with the Steelers on a one-year deal for 2023.
