Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw Puts Steelers on Blast: ‘I Can’t Get over the Game’
To say the least, the Pittsburgh Steelers got embarrassed in Saturday night’s Wild Card loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers once again got off to a slow start in a playoff game, and the contest was over at halftime with the Ravens holding a commanding 21-0 lead.
It was the eighth time that Mike Tomlin went one-and-done in the playoffs. Only former Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs coach Marty Schottenheimer’s has more one-and-done appearances in the postseason (9).
The Steelers’ playoff win drought was extended to eight years. Only the Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals have longer playoff win droughts than the Steelers.
Eight years without a playoff win is certainly not acceptable, and Steelers legends are speaking out. Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher thinks there needs to be major changes on the coaching staff and roster.
Hall of Fame quarterback and four-time Super Bowl champion Terry Bradshaw also put the Steelers on notice.
“I can’t get over the game last night when you saw the Baltimore Ravens beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers now have lost five straight games. I mean, that’s just unheard of,” Bradshaw said on FOX NFL Sunday. “The defense was just horrible, they couldn’t stop the run, couldn’t stop the pass. They couldn’t do anything right last night. This just doesn’t look anything like the Steelers teams we’ve seen.”
Kirk Herbstreit ripped Pittsburgh’s first-half effort in Saturday night’s Wild Card game loss to the Ravens. At times, it looked like multiple Steelers players didn’t even want to be there.
“Where the hell is the fight?! This is the Pittsburgh Steelers! There’s nothing! They’re just going through the motions!” Herbstreit said during the Amazon Prime broadcast.
Midway through the third quarter, the Ravens had 242 yards rushing, which is the most rushing yards allowed by Pittsburgh in a postseason game. The previous high was 232 yards at Oakland in 1973. Baltimore finished with 299 yards rushing (6.0 average).
The loss to Baltimore was Pittsburgh’s sixth consecutive playoff defeat, tying the Miami Dolphins for the longest active streak in the league. The last time Tomlin won a playoff game was in January 2017. Since then, 28 head coaches have won at least one playoff game.
Despite calls for Tomlin’s job from the majority of Steelers Nation, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Sunday morning that the Steelers have no interest in moving on from Tomlin, and Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on Sunday afternoon that the team does not plan to do so.
As Bradshaw mentioned, Saturday’s performance didn’t look anything like the Steelers teams we’ve seen. The standard has been lost. It’s up to Tomlin to fix it, and he could be running out of time.
